I will try to instill the foundations of music while attempting to make it fun and interesting. If the student is an adult or has more skill level, I will let the student dictate the direction we go in, based on their desired skill level and interest. I honestly love teaching young and beginning students because they're an absolute blank slate, something I do not take lightly. Having fun and establishing a strong practice routine is paramount with younger students. I emphasize listening to records/music with all students but especially with more intermediate to advanced students. My students are more likely to excel in all of their studies, have enhanced critical thinking skills and will have a higher level of focus discipline than students not studying music the arts. I have been teaching for eight years, I have taught privately, in group settings, and with students of all ages. I have found that one of the most important things to have in a student teacher relationship is trust. If a student does not trust his or her teacher than they will be less encouraged to learn and practice. I have also found that building this kind of relationship will also help students to develop a love for music, maybe not in the way that I did, but in a way that is over all beneficial to their character and life philosophy.
