I've had over 20 years of teaching experience in guitar for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students, 13 years of teaching experience in piano for beginners and intermediate students, and 7 years of teaching experience in Bass guitar for beginner students.  I demonstrate technique of performing, lend tips on how to correct mistakes, and show how to further their experience while developing his or her own style.  I'm very encouraging, always emphasizing a positive and productive approach to learning. I've been teaching now for 3 years and it has been a welcomed alternative to my former day job of working in a corporate environment in New York City.  I started informally teaching my friends as far back as 10 years ago and it has evolved into a serious passion of mine.  I have taught a wide range of students ranging from 10 to 50 years of age with an eclectic array of learning styles and musical preferences. For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. You can learn so much about a student in a 30 minute trial lesson! If a new student is not a total beginner, I will ask them to play their favorite song (or one of their favorites if they have trouble choosing just one). After their performance, I ask them what they liked about how they played. Its important for students to always be aware of what they do well. If they arent able to see their strengths on their own then I share with them what I think their strengths are and encourage them to keep that up. Read More

Over the years, I've taken lessons from instructors who had an array of teaching styles. While in high school, I was taught through intimidation and was scared into learning, which is something I was able to handle. This methods can actually turn students away from music which is the main reason dislike approach. Students should be comfortable and relaxed when entering a lesson. This not only creates a positive learning environment for the student but helps create a relationship between instructor and student that only helps the growth of both individuals. Read More

My teaching style is conversational. We created a project or topic. I'll tell you my experiences & listen to your questions. I will customize exercises or solutions to any issue you may have. I teach the student how to get a natural feel that includes tone, time, & finesse. The goal is to get the student sounding like they have been playing longer than they have actually been. Applying these abilities to songs the students are interested in is the next step. Read More

I have been teaching professionally since 2010. I have worked for various music schools and have given lessons privately. I have experience in band coaching and teaching song writing and recording. I teach lessons out of my own recording studio, and I am comfortable working with students of all ages and skill levels. I consider myself to be great with beginners because I focus a lot on technique and how to make a clear clean sound on the instrument which is usually the first barrier a new student encounters. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
