Touring & recording internationally with high profile artists in R&B, Jazz, Brazilian and Pop music, for the past 20 years. Too many credits to list here, but easily searchable online

Overview:
Greetings! I'm a professional bassist and i've had the good fortune to have recorded & toured internationally (US, Canada, Mexico, much of S America, much of Europe, North Africa, Russia, Australia, Caribbean, all multiple times) with a number of well-known artists, inclusive of several different styles of music. The joy of musical expression is simply unparalleled, and the challenge of continued exploration and improvement is stimulating and fun. I took piano for 6 years as a child, then as a teenager began playing bass in rock, pop and R&B groups, as well as in school productions. I studied at Belmont University in Nashville with Roy Vogt and Jim Ferguson. In NYC, i have studied with Ben Wolfe (Juilliard jazz faculty and member of Wynton Marsalis sextet) Some of the artists i have played with (and continue to): Chaka Khan, Ashford & Simpson, Blood Sweat & Tears, Jason Miles, Max Weinberg Orchestra, MJ (Broadway) The Harlem Gospel Choir, Sachal Vasandani, Peter Cincotti, Jeff Lorber, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Vonda Shepard, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, hip-hop cult faves Camp Lo, the Metermaids, Felicia Collins (of Late Show with David Letterman). Most of these are/were long term associations.
EXPERIENCE
Through understanding the fundamentals of music and the fundamentals of bass technique, you can literally play anything. The music that has inspired you becomes less of a mystery and once it's in your hands, you've got it forever! I have fun playing music and love to share my enthusiasm. We'll have fun! Throughout my career, i've taught privately, as students will approach me at a performance or another way. I have also given masterclasses on occasion in conjunction with tours or performances. I enjoy sharing knowledge; there were those who once shared it with me and I consider myself lucky indeed to have gotten insights and feedback from some of the true masters. It has made all the difference in being able to actually achieve my musical goals. I'll share information and insights with you that have taken me MANY years to gain, and i'll also help you focus on practicing in a productive way. This is an often overlooked aspect of the process.
METHODS USED
We will do some playing together so i can determine what you've already gotten "under your hands". Or if you're a complete beginner we'll start from the beginning. I'll find out what your musical interests and inspirations are and we will incorporate that into the overall context of learning to play music well. We'll of course work on scales and arpeggios all over the bass, in various fingerings etc, and importantly, we'll talk about WHY we're doing it! (spoiler alert: it's because all musical sound is made up of notes, and once we can confidently access them, we'll be able to play anything we can hear) No area of the bass fingerboard will be a mystery. For more advanced students who have done this work already, we will go ahead with more applied things and advanced concepts. But this is YOUR lesson and musical journey, so we will also pursue your specific goals, whether they be specialized techniques, learning ANY bass line, learning difficult pieces of music (yes, i'm talking Jaco and others, bebop, killer slap lines, etc), learning or improving your reading ability, or exploring improvisation more deeply. Other goals might be style-specific, like playing blues, walking on chord changes, playing funk, gospel, R & B, etc, being a better "groover" while still being creative, HOW TO turn pro, etc. The list of possibilities is endless.
LESSON STYLE
The way i approach sharing knowledge with students is to present materials and concepts and then set about "right-sizing" the tasks based on each student's individual needs. Anything we want to play can be broken down into its component parts and we work to gain mastery of each element. It doesn't matter how small we make the task if we are progressing! Something may seem difficult, but we find the right way of working on it and we're off and running. Before you know it, you've got something under your hands and the feeling becomes, "hey, i get this now". Watching a student arrive at those moments is so rewarding! And for you the student, having those moments is literally to improve not just as a musician, but as a human being and you confidently realize that you've done it, you've grown!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
