I also like to ask a lot of questions as a way to solidify concepts, so I'll say things like, "What other chord do you know that has these notes?" and so on. When people are forced to work out their problems' solutions themselves it prevents them from disengaging from the learning process, and there's nothing more rewarding than a student's face when they just figured something out all by themselves. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of jazz and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the drums and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

In 2013 I graduated from William Paterson University with B.A. in Music Studies with a minor in music management. In 2012 I completed an in depth internship with 5 time Grammy award winner Glen Velez. Music is my passion because its fun and it is a life long journey where you keep expanding and learning more. I hope to pass on my knowledge that I have accumulated from years of lessons and university to students and friends. Read More

For all my students I like to balance between making our way through a method book and breaking down different songs and exercises. I recommend Hal Leonard's Essential Elements/Method books or Standard of Excellence books for my woodwind/guitar/ukulele students, Piano Adventures by Faber books for my piano students, and Breaking It Down or Alfred's Beginning Drumset Method for my drum students. Once the student has gained an understanding of basic sight-reading, then we can move on to more advanced books that can be focused on a theme or other advanced methods. Read More
