When I was 15 years old I began teaching to a few kids I knew from high school on guitar. I also began teaching my friend Max Kroll's little brother who was only in 3rd grade at the time. About three summers ago, I played a show in my hometown of Montclair. Afterwards, I struck up a conversation with a woman who had just seen me play. She asked if I could give her son guitar lessons and, even though I had never taught before, I agreed. For beginning piano students, I often get them started with the Faber piano series, then incorporate music theory along with their song requests. For beginning fretted string students (guitar/bass/ukelele), I like to start with the Hal Leonard method book to get started with reading notation, so that we cover more than just tabs and chords.
