My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. Something to get them really excited about learning and practicing, and songs that they recognize and can show others. Read More

I have an open approach to teaching guitar, and encourage students to utilize knowledge obtained through my lessons in whatever context they prefer as opposed to gearing them towards a certain style of playing. Much of my own teaching was based in jazz, but I have managed to find myself utilizing much of what I was taught playing in a heavy, shoegazey rock band. The preferences of my students are important to me, and while setting goals for progress is important, it is important to me that students learn at their own pace and move forward on their own initiative. I am a stronger believer of - "if you can't explain it in a way that even a baby could understand it, you don't understand the topic area well enough". I pride myself on being a teacher that can unequivocally deliver you straight-up, tried tested, failsafe methods to improve fast on your instrument, with the aim of expanding you closer and closer to the type of player that you dream you could be. I honestly and openly admit that when I first started taking guitar lessons (at age 13), I had struggled with many of the same things as a large percentage of my students do. So unlike many other teachers out there, to whom guitar playing came much more naturally and easily, I can still truly understand the students' problems and offer my own insights and solutions to these problems. This is something that the other, more "naturally talented", teachers simply can not do - because they never experienced any of those problems themselves firsthand. Read More

I've been teaching for over 10 years now and I truly enjoy helping my students get more out of themselves. I started on classical piano at a young age, then played a whole lot of guitar focusing on the likes of Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and more, before joining marching band and jazz band diving deep into drums. In College I started playing bass in bands in Manhattan, and I believe it's this transitions of hopping to many different instruments, starting on the piano, that makes it easy for me to relay the main musical concepts to my students that overlap through all of these instruments. For beginning guitar students who are children and just starting on guitar, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, and as I get to know the student better, I will personalize their lessons, setting goals to learn specific songs or solo pieces that cater to their musical tastes and interests, which keeps them invested in their guitar practice. I like the student to pick their area of interest of musical genre. From there, we develop the style in accordance to the students desire.Chord theory, structure, soloing are all part of the training.Students pick the songs and we take it from there. While method books are available, most are boring examples of how to attain artistry. In our lessons, I use proven individual methods that will enhance the students ability to achieve. Read More
