My specialty as a guitarist is in jazz, but I bring that love for improvised music to a number of other styles: blues, rock, funk, acoustic/fingerstyle, country, folk, ska, reggae, RB etc. I graduated from Duquesne University in 2013 with a degree in jazz performance. Born in South Africa and raised in Oxford, UK, I began my career as a professional touring and recording musician at the age of sixteen. As a member of the band Stornoway, I had the incredible privilege of touring the world and playing some of it’s most renowned stages, performing live on the UK’s biggest music television program, “Later...with Jools Holland”, alongside Jay Z, Foo Fighters, Norah Jones, and Sting, recording live sessions in the infamous Abbey Road studios for mainstream BBC Radio programs, being interviewed by top music journalists as well as performing on some of the BBC’s main prime-time radio and television political programs including Andrew Marr’s talk-show, and receiving a silver record from BMI for record sales - all before the age of 25. I definitely believe in realistic goals and I think one of the most important things during learning is that my students properly know what they have to do to be prepare for the next lessons and to achieve the current goal! I also really encourage my students in having a daily and enjoayble instrument practice. My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. Something to get them really excited about learning and practicing, and songs that they recognize and can show others. Read More

Once I started lessons on the upright bass, originally with the intention of only playing jazz, I soon fell in love with classical bass playing, and this became my primary focus during college. My major teachers have included Lynn Fleming, Jeff Weisner of the National Symphony Orchestra, and Laura Ruas of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.
