With all students I put a lot of emphasis on leaning how to learn. I believe that by, for instance, teaching students how to make good use of their practice time (being productively self-critical) and processing information in an intuitive way, drastically expedites musical development and profoundly affect brain development. Much of this intuitive practice has to do with internalizing information such as music theory or recordings to the point that they become second nature much like a language. Read More

I start with where youre at and having a general idea of where youd like to end up. Starting with a framework i like to think of teaching like building a house. What is the foundation of what youre looking for? And go from there. If anything having to do with folk or blues I wiuld start with the pentatonic scale. As a singer songwriter and producer I have played at Bitter End, Sidewalk Cafe etc. Read More

My teaching style varies from student to student. Playing the guitar is the most fun I have at any point during the day and thats what I want to impart to the student. Fun! I also belove in repetition. Playing scales over and over by yourself, sometimes, isnt so much fun so while i will have a strict regimen of practice it will be structured in an interesting and enjoyable format for both the student and whomever happens to be around, listening!
