Overview:
https://www.aaronseener.com/ I have found an enormous amount of fulfillment from playing music, and I want to help you find it too! I am an enthusiastic, versatile instructor with experience performing, writing and recording everything from classical to jazz to rock. In 2012 I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Pennsylvania State University, where I studied bass with Professor Robert Nairn, the former President of the International Society of Bassists. I have recorded on a wide range of projects, including albums produced by Ron Blair from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pete Steinkopf from The Bouncing Souls, and Ezra Kire from Morning Glory. I have performed orchestral concerts at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Heinz Hall. I've played with rock and folk rock bands all over the country, including several tours of the east and west coasts. I also have years of experience playing in big band jazz bands, as well as jazz combos.
EXPERIENCE
I first began giving lessons during my junior year in high school, in 2007. I taught double bass, bass guitar and guitar after school and over the summers. During my senior year of high school, I was asked to give sectional lessons to the double bassists in the freshman orchestra. I was also invited to make a guest appearance as a conductor during the final concert. While earning my music degree at Penn State, I took several classes in music education. For one semester I was given the opportunity to lead a preschool class in beginner level music instruction. I continued to teach lessons during the summers, and in 2011 I worked as the music specialist at West Hills Day Camp. Since graduating I have been teaching students in New York City and San Diego.
METHODS USED
My lesson plans are devised around each student's individual goals. Do you have a favorite bassist that you want to sound like? Is there an ensemble that you are dying to play in? Through a combination of effective methods and specific structuring to your needs, I can help you achieve those goals! For double bass, I find F. Simandl's "New Method for the Double Bass" and "30 Etudes for the String Bass" to be extremely useful. For bass guitar, I like to teach with "Hal Leonard Bass Method." For guitar, I use "Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method." On occasion, I have had students who learn more effectively without method books and I have no problem constructing a lesson plan to meet those particular preferences.
LESSON STYLE
I want to show you that music can be the most exciting and enriching experience in your life! The best way for a student to grow and succeed as a musician is to enjoy playing. There is an enormous amount of practice that comes with learning an instrument, but if you become passionate about playing, then the urge to practice will come naturally. We will work together to establish a long term goal. With that in mind, each week I will help you take a step in the right direction and you will definitely notice the progress.
