My main repertoire for teaching comes from William's Levitt's "A Modern Method for Guitar". It comes with Three Volumes, and from beginner to intermediate anywhere in the book is a great place to start! From basic music reading to learning different positions, I believe that these books provide a cornerstone for even the more advanced players to refresh on in the beginning! In addition to teaching material directly, I prefer to cultivate the skill of teaching oneself. Instead of scripting the direction of the students growth I help them to follow their own path by accentuating the qualities that make them special and removing technical roadblocks. My own education straddles many schools (rock, jazz, folk/bluegrass, classical, hip-hop, dance, experimental, funk, etc.), formal and informal. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who enjoys helping students unravel the mysteries of music. I graduated with honors from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2014. While studying at IUP, I was principal bassoon of our ensembles and played in many chamber groups as well. In 2015, I won the Graduate Assistantship at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Fun and progress are the key! Playing guitar (or any instrument) should never feel like work. I gear my lessons so that students feel motivated and inspired to keep going. Instead of just practicing a bunch of scales, I will apply our lesson to a song or progression that is fun and matches the particular skill level of each student. We will record ourselves "Jamming" so the student can hear the fits of their labor, as we continue to up the ante. Read More
