I like to create lessons geared towards each individual students needs. I work out of a few different books depending upon skill level. I try to gear the lessons towards the style of music the student likes while also teaching different techniques for a wide variety of music. I like to use rudiments and stick control as warm up exercises and then also teach different grooves and rhythms through song. for beginner students I will teach drum kit basics like setup. tuning and how to replace drum heads etc as well. I began giving private guitar instruction towards the end of my college studies, and after graduation taught group and private lessons at a music school. At that school I taught a vast range of ages, skill levels, and instruments, from 4 year old beginners, to teenage experts, to adults who needed a brush-up. I learned the wondrous potential of motivated students with supportive parents as well as the futility of forcing an instrument or a style on a student that actually wanted to explore something else. For beginners I prefer to start with a snare drum method. The reason being that everything they will learn on the snare drum can be applied to other percussion instruments such as drum set or mallets. I will typically use the Vic Firth Snare Method, Alfred Snare Method, or the Haskell Harr Snare Method. I have been playing and practicing the drum set consistently since I began in my early adolescence. Over the past decade, I have performed with dozens of ensembles of varying styles from jazz orchestras to rock outfits to more off-kilter projects. I have also joined many profession groups on regional tours, as well asdtracked in studios as a session musician. In 2019, I graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor degree in Audio Engineering and Music, studying the other half of music that people often find confusing. Read More
