I have taught guitar since I was 16 years old. I have taught private lessons and have also directed music ensembles such as a rock band summer camp. I teach students of all ages and all skill levels. I have taught everything from rock, blues, pop, classical, to jazz and beyond. I have performed, written, and recorded with artists and producers from Philadelphia, PA to Los Angeles, CA. My teaching experience dates back to the 1980's where I have taught Music Classes involving singing of worship music in religious elementary schools as well as teaching music theory, and music history. I was also a preschool teacher and taught preschool music enrichment classes. After school hours I enjoy teaching in my own home music studio, but due to pandemic have now switched to online music lessons. Teaching the guitar or drums to my students is very rewarding for it allows me to share my passion for music, keep music alive where as sometimes music is not present enough in this world, and to see my students progress and shine as they smile when they achieve a new musical goal! For beginners, I have a special system that implements coordination while utilizing proper counting technique. As their understanding of their limbs grows the more I begin to welcome actual musical notation. This system has proven time and time again to tackle the initial issue that coordination imposes. In intermediate to advanced students I stress the importance of technique, quality of sound, coordination, visualization, and relaxation/movement. While at Eustace, I won the Bishop Eustace Leadership in Music Award & the John Philip Sousa Award, the latter being a national award to honor the top student in high school band as it recognizes musicianship and outstanding dedication by one of the senior year members of the band. I've been a private lesson teacher since 1997 and have taught in 7 school districts across the Southeastern PA/Southern NJ area since 1999. My ensembles have consistently won State, Regional and National Championships over this time and my students have become members of elite performing ensembles like the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (Fort Mill, South Carolina) and Miami, Florida's New World Symphony. While school level instruction is a critical element of student development, private lessons offer the individual attention not available to students taught in large groups, while yielding results of greater quality at a faster pace.
