My goal will be to teach the student how to practice independently. I recommend setting up a practice schedule so that they know when they are supposed to practice. If the student is struggling with any of the weekly assignments, that is ok! Simply let me know at the next lesson so I know right where to help. No need to stress or worry if there is some confusion. Learning music is similar to learning another language; those first lessons, especially with drums, will have some basic learning curves, but I am sure that with practice & time you or your child will be excellent! I've been teaching for over 10 years privately. Through my music career I've played in musicals, events, concerts and many more. My students' ages vary from 4 years old to others in their sixties. I have recorded records in professional studios, TV programs and have helped in many churches on improving their worship teams as well. I can not only teach a student the technique or musical aspects about an instrument but also help them and guide them in the logistics of performing, preparing and much more Read More

After evaluating a student's understanding and capabilities, I typically choose a method book to parallel their existing skills and work through it at the most enthusiastic, but comfortable pace. The importance of using method books is based in the student's ability to review material between lessons and using them as checklists for progress. Establishment of a solid fundamental approach will be critical to the student's advancement and ability to perform for an audience, regardless of size or venue acoustics. Read More

My methods are going to be based off of their level of experience and their ability to grasp concepts. I would teach through books and other tools I have taught myself with and help my students gain knowledge and helpful tips to gain them a better idea on how to practice and play what they want to play. I will put together ideas for a lesson plan and if needed change it up a bit as I see fit for each individual student Im working with cause some will learn different then others. Read More

Playing the Drum Set requires strength in a few key areas. Hand to Hand Coordination, 4 limb interdependence , rhythm vocabulary and Timing. No matter what your skill level is we'll always need to maintain it. The saying is, "if you don't use it you lose it". No matter your skill level I believe it's important to understand what it takes to maintain the physical performance on your instrument. That's why I encourage students to memorize songs and exercises. Read More

My style of teaching is straightforward, fun, focused and also enthusiastic with many years of real life experience behind it. I love teaching in general, and to combine that with something so creative and expressive, is a dream come true! What gets me excited and sustains my passion for teaching is when there are challenges and the student breaks through them and gains knowledge, confidence and hopefully some “life tools” they can bring out into the world.
