I love to teach music because it reminds me of the joy I felt in the process of musical discovery when I was a student. In 1996, I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance. Since graduation, I've had the opportunity to explore many avenues within the world of percussion. Among these opportunities, I had the privilege to study and perform different music of the Caribbean. Read More

Drumming since the age of 6 and learning to play a few other instruments along the way, I've seized opportunities with large touring ensembles and small groups based all over the Northeastern United States, many of which have performed in locations ranging from the Brooklyn Bridge and Philadelphia's Merriam Theater, to large venues like Giants Stadium in New Jersey, the Continental Airlines Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and as far away Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. I like to give the students the tools to become their own teachers. As their private teacher, my goals are threefold: firstly, to help them build an understanding of the fundamentals of their instrument, including relevant techniques, posture, etc. Secondly, to help them build an understanding of musical concepts and of musicianship in general, including melody, harmony, rhythm, basic theory, etc. Thirdly, to help them cultivate a vibrant practice and playing program, including optimizing fun while practicing otherwise dry material, scaffolding their learning to extrapolate on what they already know, and giving them the tools to improve and develop with or without a teacher. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

Whatever I am teaching someone, I aim to present the material in the most interesting/fun way possible. I teach with authentic enthusiasm because of the joy that teaching provides. I am pretty easy going when it comes to teaching because it conveys patient, positive vibes. I don't want my to students to be afraid to make mistakes; something that happens when you take a strict, authoritarian approach. Rather, I prefer to covet a positive, free, fun learning environment. When teaching a novice student the drums it is extremely important to note that learning the drums is not an overnight affair. The amount of practice needed for thorough syncopation is not to be slept on. HOWEVER, I genuinely believe once a student hits that learning curve where their arms and legs have "minds of their own" there is an infinite amount of progress that can be made after. I always say music is fun and it should always be whether the student is practicing rudiments, or legitimately playing to pieces from Glen Miller's Orchestra all the way up to Michael Jackson. For me Im hoping to help a person gain a whole new outlook on how they see music. I want to have them grab the material and really focus on the basics so that when they get to the next levels of their teachings that they will have an easier transition. I want to develop a good relationship with my students so they are ultimately comfortable with my teaching experience. Read More
