When recording our demo (for a fellow students studio project), I took additional responsibility in our studio production. Before leaving college, I formed noise-rock outfit Robot Versus Dinosaur to explore performing purely-improvised music based on things Id learned from dance classes and live jamming. Graduation led to Philadelphia, where I interpreted pre-written drum-loops live for female-fronted pop band SubStatic. I then reconnected w/ step-brother to serve his MusicForHeadphones project for some 5 years, touring interstate and recording 3 albums, serving the project to focus on getting a Masters in Electrical Engineering at Drexel University, to research signal projecting, new forms of musical interfacing, and the educational potential of music video games. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 3 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. In my musical career, spanning 38 years, I have performed with varied groups including: drumset with The Road Runners Blues Band, Catfish and Paul Plumeri Blues Band; West African, Middle Eastern and Afro-Cuban percussion with Groove Merchant Drum Dance Ensemble; bodhran and bones with traditional Celtic bands Kintail, Cwn Annwn and Browne Jenkyn; and snare drum with The First Highland Watch of Pennsylvania and Rev War Re-enactors First NJ Volunteers. I like to create lessons geared towards each individual students needs. I work out of a few different books depending upon skill level. I try to gear the lessons towards the style of music the student likes while also teaching different techniques for a wide variety of music. I like to use rudiments and stick control as warm up exercises and then also teach different grooves and rhythms through song. for beginner students I will teach drum kit basics like setup. tuning and how to replace drum heads etc as well.
