For Beginner students I would start with the Frederick Noad Classical Guitar book. This book is a great book to hold interest in the Students. This Book teaches Basics, but gets right down and dirty in to learning music. The Music in the book starts with simple Melody for the student, with some advanced part underneith to give the allusion to a young beginning student they are achieving greatly. This tactic helps harness the musical drive in a student. Read More

I teach my students to read music as well as to play by ear. I host 2 recitals each year. We learn one song start to finish and I hire a professional band to learn and perform the songs with my students at a local establishment or at my studio. I encourage all of my students to perform with our recital band. As far as books, I prefer to use the "new Breed", by Gary Chester, the ''Art of Bop Drumming'', by John Riley , and the ''encyclopedia of reading rhythms'', by Garry Hess, but there are many other books I recommend for specific needs. In addition to drum set, I also teach djembe (West African), bodhran (Celtic), doumbek (Middle Eastern) and conga (Afro-Cuban). My favorite thing about teaching is watching students develop into creative musicians and finding their own voice. My playing and teaching has always been based in tradition, but not bound by it. I have found that keeping a relaxed, fun atmosphere during lessons allows students to learn at their own pace. Read More

I used a combination of my own methods and standardized books for drum set education. I break up the lessons in two or three sections depending on skill level. The fundamentals are key aspects to progress as a drummer. Using a combination of technique lessons and also practical musical application are key lessons to go over with any student. I like to make the lessons fun and the most important part is to play with music. Read More

I have been teaching musical arts for quite some time now and really enjoy teaching and seeing my students grow in skill and confidence. Before teaching private lessons and then in a local music school, I was in a working Rock and Roll band, playing mostly original songs. I have played from Pawtucket, Rhode island down to the Outer banks in North Carolina. Of course, we played the majority of our shows in Philadelphia. Read More
