Hi! Im Kate! I am a jazz vocalist and instrumentalist and teacher from Houston TX. I started my musical journey at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual arts where I concentrated my studies in flute, but ultimately fell in love with singing. I am a 2019-2022 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award Winner, a 2018 2019 YoungArts Winner in jazz voice, and I've performed at various venues including the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival, 2022 SXSW Festival, and the world renowned Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. I am a classically-trained singer and piano player  with over 10 years of private teaching experience.  I have performed in several recitals including the Early Boston Music Festival.  In addition, I have performed with sveral different choirs throughout the years. With piano students I enjoy using John Thompson and Alfred methods for beginners and I choose different songs as students get more experience. For voice students I use simple songs to develop their vocal technique. Through effective warmups and reading, students will develop musicianship skills. As a performer, I find nothing more satisfying than the communication between myself and the other perfomers, the audience, the music, the poetry, and the theater. I have been thrilled to perform in musical theater throughout Colorado and to find myself loving opera here in New York. I try to provide a balance between structure and flexibility. The student and his or her well being is more important than the music, yet the music Fuels the lesson. My goal is that students walk out of their lessons feeling more uplifted and inspired than when they walked in. Music lessons are life lessons.
