I received my bachelors in music education and began teaching privately during that time. I taught in my home studio and at The Musical Arts Center of San Antonio, and at The Stone Oak Youth Theatre and Dance Co. I have worked with students of all ages and musical backgrounds. I strive to balance technical skills with creative and artistic skills. I like to combine several styles in order to engage students and keep lessons fresh and interesting. Read More

Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. In my voice lessons, I'll focus on breathing, resonance, singer's health, good practice habits, musicianship, pronunciation/diction, and performance. Read More

I've received instruction from Robert Skiles (Beto y Los Fairlanes), Rich Harney, Riley Osbourne and Grammy-winning pianist, Floyd Domino, among others. After traveling much of the world as a musician, I am pleased to return to my hometown and share what I've learned with those seeking instruction. My teaching style ranges from simplified beginner lessons that facilitate a basic understanding of music and the piano, to demonstrating shortcuts and tradecraft for more advanced ensemble players. I like a light, fun atmosphere during lessons, one that reflects the learning style and personality of each student. There are some not-so-fun things about learning music (practice schedules and repetition) but there are plenty of resources out there to help students stay interested and motivated. I like to reward accomplishments (stickers are always awesome) and offer opportunities for improvement. I work for a positive and balanced experience for every student. Read More

For beginning drum set students, the program I recommend is starting with Drum Set Essentials by Peter Erskine. As skills in rudiments and basic patterns develop, I go on to materials such as Syncopation by Ted Reed (reading, coordination, technique), and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone (technique). For piano, I go over basic theory, major and minor scales, chords and arpeggios and work in Piano For Adults by James Bastien. Read More

In high school, I was blessed with an incredibly patient, thorough and talented choir teacher. He taught me the fundamental building blocks of musicianship as I understand it best. To this day, I use the key concepts I learned from him in my lessons. 1) Rhythm is the most important element of music. 2) Understanding the importance of persistence, practice, and patience with the instrument. 3) You can manufacture energy and put it into your music.
