Most of my education and experience working with students comes from a background of counseling and social sciences. I try to approach teaching music and guitar in a similar way to how I would approach any other kind of teaching, and attribute my unique background and skillset to make my lessons effective for a diverse range of students. When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun!
