When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For adults, I like to analyze my student's musical interests and try to associate lessons in that style of repertoire. Read More

My teaching experience didn't really begin until a few years ago. I began "shadowing" other teachers that I knew who founded The Music Bus Rocks, a local business that focuses on teaching young musicians-to-be, and I immediately became hooked with the process of teaching something that I loved. My experience has mostly been with kids and young adults, but I always believe that no one is too old to learn an instrument. Read More

Depending on the age and personality, I cater each lesson to the individual. If they are younger students, I'll use Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books, but sometimes I will make a custom book that builds with their development and learning style. I believe reading sheet music is important, but understand that being able to play along with other musicians using ear training and improv skills, as well as reading chord charts, is just as necessary. I’ve already stressed this, but I’m always starting at the same level my student is on. The last thing I want to so is overwhelm a beginner! Therefore, my lessons will be tailored to your learning needs and habits. I am always open to feedback, and I encourage students to stop and ask me questions! I’m very laid back. Sure, you could say I’m a hippie, but that doesn't mean I don’t have expectations. Read More

I began teaching music in my college days. I was a music director in the public schools. I have been consistently teaching music in my home studio for the past 11 years. I am passionate about being a teacher and teaching students of all ages. I enjoy teaching classical music because it is a firm foundation for all other genres of music. If one can play classical, they can play anything. Read More

I create custom lesson plans depending on each student's musical background, stylistic preference, as well as age. For children I usually like to teach out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method 1 and occasionally include songs they like/know as a reward for good work. For adults, it varies depending on their experience level and interests. When I teach, I try to teach not only how to physically play certain parts, but also how to think about music-- how the guitar player arrived playing that, why it works, and how to adopt similar things into one's own playing.
