Every student has a different learning style and learns at their own pace. I myself am a tactile kinesthetic learner and tend to teach this way. For example, I enjoy using colored pencils to highlight articulation and dynamics. If a student is younger, I use stickers to help students keep track of where they are in the piece. I tailor my instruction to what each of my students needs and want to learn. Read More

I love teaching music! But, what's more, I throughly enjoy sharing the gift of music with my students. I believe that passion fuels action. If I want my students to be actively engaged in the learning process. I have to do my part as the teacher and involve the student in the music choosing process, before I can involve them in the music making process. If my students are clearly not passionate about the song that we are working on together in lessons. Read More

Depending on the age and personality, I cater each lesson to the individual. If they are younger students, I'll use Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books, but sometimes I will make a custom book that builds with their development and learning style. For piano: I usually start with Piano Safari method books, which I supplement with pieces that pique the student's interest. I love this series for young students because it combines rote with note-learning. In this method, the student immediately is playing all over the keyboard and has fun learning. I have a large library of music books, from which I can select pieces that fit the needs of the student. Read More

Music was created to be ENJOYABLE (meaning it "brings IN JOY" to our souls) - therefore everything about it should be just that! My teaching style is much like my personality - Fun, laid back, with a good balance of buckling down when needed, joyful & a perfectionist. I will push my students gently & encourage them to learn the styles THEY want in a very professional and multi-faceted way. Having worked with thousands of kids & teenagers, I've learned that charisma is contagious & when given the proper tools & support, they can do exceedingly & abundantly more than what they (or I) could ever imagine! My teaching stlye is somewhat versatile depending on the students own personality and individual needs. I believe that all students should be self-motivated, and if they are lacking in discpline and consistency, I help them get re-centered and rouse their enthusiasm again so that they can approach practice with enthusiasm and curiosity rather then appraoching like it is a chore. I feel that learning and playing music be, mostly, intrinsically rewarding because this is how the best results are achieved. Read More

He also began to experiment with introducing rock elements into the classical music environment (with varying degrees of success!), composing several pieces for ensembles of strings and woodwinds which also featured electric guitar, electric bass, and drum set. Jesse has also spent time studying the music of eastern Europe and the far east, and he has traveled to Asia and performed with local folk musicians there. A piece he composed for guitar and gayageum (a Korean string instument) had it's premiere performance at a national folk festival in Seoul, South Korea. Read More
