My teaching experience, on the individual and private level, goes back to my college days where I would tutor other students in piano to pass their keyboard barriers. While in the active duty military (I'm retired now), I provided private lessons to children and adults in my available time. It is important to remember that a student's individual practice time is invaluable; the lesson time is NOT supposed to be the first time to be reviewing an assigned piece! Read More

I am a passionate full time musician that both teaches and performs. I have been teaching private lessons for 9 years and performing for 4 years. I started out as an academically driven violinist while playing guitar recreationally. However, in college fell in love with playing guitar in the Jazz band and soon their after, I found my love for songwriting. I wrote, recorded, and published under the band name City of Decades while performing all over the country. Read More

My life's work is to spread the joy of learning and playing music and helping all who wish to learn to hone or to obtain the skills needed to do just that. I have successfully done so professionally for the past 20 years. I deeply listen and observe the student's needs and respond to each individual with an approach that best suits their goals and have helped dozens of students of all ages bring out the inner-musician in themselves. I like to create lesson plans around what kind of music the student wants to learn. For example, most young girls want to learn Disney princess songs. So I print them off their own copies of the songs that they had expressed an interest in learning. I feel like if the student is not interested in playing or singing the music that I am giving them it could be the best curriculum in the world, but it won't help them learn if they are not actively engaged in the music they are singing or playing. Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. In my voice lessons, I'll focus on breathing, resonance, singer's health, good practice habits, musicianship, pronunciation/diction, and performance. Read More

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I began playing guitar when I was 8 years old. My love for music has deepened over time, and I feel it is important to share my knowledge and passion for the art with whoever is willing to learn. My earliest teachers taught me in a way that made music fun, rather than tedious, which to me is essential. I played in Jazz Band through middle school and high school, which opened my ears to another dimension of music. Read More
