I have been teaching privately for 5 years, beginning while I was still in college. My students spanned every age from 3rd graders to HS seniors, and I taught them a mix of basic healthy technique and musical theory. My current students are active performers of musical theater in both public and scholastic venues. I currently teach out of my home studio, where I have a piano and an acoustically grand living space. Read More

Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. In my voice lessons, I'll focus on breathing, resonance, singer's health, good practice habits, musicianship, pronunciation/diction, and performance. Read More

Because I have had voice training and have taught using many different methods, my students find much more quickly what works for them and their goals. They also have enjoyed the freedom of being able to tell me the sound they are wanting to make and receiving instruction how to make that sound, rather than being told they can only sing in a certain genre (usually classical) with a certain kind of sound (also usually classical). My teaching style is geared mainly towards going over fundamentals while finding the students interest in music. I encourage my students to listen to as much music as possible, to explore and find what they really enjoy. Playing along to music,or learning songs the student enjoys is a great way to apply the fundamentals, and make them more enjoyable to master. Read More
