Overview:
Whether it’s to increase your confidence at karaoke night or to prepare for your first on stage performance, I’m very interested in helping you improve your singing. Ever been told that you’re “a little pitchy”, or that you “just need to give it more support?” Tips like these often leave people frustrated because they don’t actually give anyone a plan for improvement. In my lessons we will focus on specific issues, and make sure you have a great plan for clear, noticeable improvement of your singing abilities.
EXPERIENCE
I've got a Bachelors and a Masters degree in vocal performance. Right now, I've nearly completed a Ph. D in Music Theory, with a related field in Vocal Pedagogy. That education, combined with my years of experience teaching students ages 10 to 80, gives me the knowledge and the ability to help you improve. My Classical training can give you insight into important singing concepts, like singing with pure vowel sounds, smoothly connected singing style, and operatic singing quality. My work in music theory lets me share with you not just how to read music, but also how to interpret a performance and make it truly your own, and how to show that to your audience.
METHODS USED
How a lesson goes is ultimately up to you, but typically, I like to start every lesson by spending some time working on specific vocal techniques. Good fundamentals are very important - developing good singing habits while getting rid of bad ones is key to consistent improvement. I believe that as a teacher, the best thing I can do for a student is to give them the tools to succeed outside of the lesson. We can also spend time practicing reading music. After that, we start working on the songs you want to sing. If you have recording that you learn from we can work with those. If you bring sheet music, its even better. If you don't have any songs in mind, I have many books from which we can chose some, from classical to jazz, to Disney musicals.
LESSON STYLE
My strong background in Vocal Pedagogy includes a working knowledge of the anatomy of the vocal mechanism and the acoustical physics of sound production. These fundamentals can be applied for significant and often immediate improvement in sound quality both in singing and in spoken word. Targeted diagnosis of the issues and clear remedies are the name of the game. If your goal is to be a performing musician, its important that you know how to read music and be able to sing new music at sight. I have years of experience teaching college music majors to do just that, so you can be confidant that with me, you will learn everything you need to be a well-rounded musician.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
