My teaching style is to be sensitive to each student. Each person has a different relationship and understanding of music. I try to identify and accommodate the ways in which the student learns best. Some students need explicit instruction and to be pushed, others need gentle guidance with time and space to work things out for themselves. For students of all skill levels, I begin by communicating with them about their goals and continue on with a gentle warm up. I then guide the student through various exercises that are designed to improve and strengthen specific areas of the voice, specific registers, problem areas, and so on. I taught in my home studio and at The Musical Arts Center of San Antonio, and at The Stone Oak Youth Theatre and Dance Co. I have worked with students of all ages and musical backgrounds. I have almost 30 years of experience as a recording and performing musician. I studied in Detroit, London and Los Angeles, and recieved my BA in music and Performing Arts in 20011. Since then I have made a living writing pop songs and movie soundtracks, performing and teaching. I consistently write 5 songs a week, and then select and develop the best material into a finished product. Working with beginner level middle school students, it was my job to help them choose songs to play, learn their individual parts, and help them rehearse as a band. Not only was it satisfying to see how quickly they improved through practice, but by the end of each session, the students seemed exponentially more motivated to pursue their musical ambitions.
