I am a passionate and energetic musician and teacher. Music is one of my favorite things in the world. It brings me great joy to pass my knowledge on to others. I graduated from Cal State Long beach with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. I currently write my own music and record as well. I have a strong background in classical music, but the music I write is more Rock and Blues influenced. Read More

When I have a beginning student, I provide for them a basic lesson book that includes fun songs and introduction to theory. Each week I go over a song or two with the student and have them play for me the song or songs for their next week's lesson. If the student performs the piece well, they are rewarded with a sticker and can move on. For my more advanced students, I ask them what kind of music they are interested in and they play for me songs from their favorite movie or artist. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Viola Trumpet Recorder Fiddle
I have been featured during that time as an on stage soloist and leader of backstage banda groups. I am also associate concertmaster of the California Philharmonic. Now that I am retired from the public schools and soon from the opera orchestra I have more time to teach privately and am looking forward to using my expertise and a performer and teacher to take students to any level they would like to go. For students earlier in their journeys, I do believe a practical understanding of music and basic theory is fundamental to unlock both the art and the science of performing. After warm up exercises that help acquire the vocabulary and sonic principles of agile musicianship, I would immediately dive into material that the student finds engaging and personal! I am an advocate for storytelling in the arts first, with mechanical technique and instruction used as vehicles to empower the pure love of expression! Read More

Piano : All piano students will begin by learning about scales and scale theory. This includes scales learned withing the Classical idiom as well as the Contemporary music idiom which includes all styles of music. Students regardless of their preferred style of music will be encouraged to learn some elementary classical music in order to facilitate and reinforce good technique, reading and interpretation. Drums: All drum students will begin by learning about stick control and proper posture. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
I introduce scales right away and each student usually has a technique book. I also incorporate games into lessons for young students to keep it fun. As students advance I introduce sheet music and music they like. For adults, there are a couple of chord method books by Alfred and Faber available and I use those unless they request something specific to work on. I may also write some of my own music, especially for learning note reading. Read More

In teaching piano, half my focus is on the student playing the music. The other half involves learning how to move your hands, how to practice effectively (especially when you hate it!) and how to stay excited about piano. Some lessons will focus on different things each time depending on each students goals. Id love to end up having recitals every year so that my students can demonstrate what theyve been working on! Instruments: Piano Voice Music Keyboard
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I started with my voice — it was always my first and most natural instrument. But as I dove deeper into music, I realized I wanted a tool that could help me compose, arrange, and understand music on a deeper level. That’s when I picked up the piano.
The piano opened up a whole new world for me — it’s like having an entire orchestra under your fingertips. It’s incredibly versatile for songwriting, teaching, and performing. Learning piano also helped me improve my vocal skills by giving me a better sense of harmony and theory.
Over time, I’ve enjoyed exploring other instruments too, always curious and excited to discover new ways to express myself musically. For me, each instrument adds a new layer to my creativity and connection with music.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Music has always been a cherished part of my family’s life. While most of my family members work as social workers and nurses, our home was always filled with singing and records playing — creating a vibrant, musical atmosphere growing up.
My grandfather was especially passionate about classical music, and his love for it even influenced my first name. His deep appreciation for timeless music left a lasting impression on me and helped spark my own journey into the world of music.
Even though music wasn’t everyone’s profession, it was always a joyful and natural part of our family gatherings and everyday life.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
Music has always been a huge part of my life — I was singing and performing from the time I could walk. But deciding to make it my career was a mix of both a gradual realization and a few defining moments that made everything click.
Growing up, performing on stage always felt natural to me. But it wasn’t until I started writing my own songs and seeing how they connected with people that I knew this was more than just a hobby — it was what I was meant to do. Later, studying at Berklee College of Music solidified that decision. Being surrounded by so many passionate, talented musicians made me realize that this was the world I belonged in.
There wasn’t just one “lightbulb” moment — it was a series of experiences, from my first live shows to my first original release, that confirmed it for me. Over time, music stopped being something I did — it became who I am.
