I was born and raised in Australia. I graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2000, and have since performed in a number of musicals and theatre productions in Oz, including Oklahoma, Les Miserables and The Vagina Monologues (2007 ITA Best Actress Award). As a critically acclaimed cabaret performer, I toured the cabaret and festival circuits in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth before moving to NYC last year. I am an Alumni of the International Cabaret Conference at Yale, won last year’s Annual Broadway Spring Festival Shana Farr Cabaret Competition and have since performed solo cabarets at the Metropolitan Room and The Duplex. Before that, I was employed by New York Edge (formerly Sports And Arts In Schools Foundation) as a Teaching Artist/Mentor. I was placed in an Alternative High School in Manhattan called City As High School where I worked with students aged 16-21. Specifically, I worked with a program within the school called MAD (Music, Art, and Design) Academy. My teaching methods are individually tailored to the student's needs and abilities. For young students and/or for those with less voice experience, I like to combine the basics of singing along with musicianship skills to set the student up for success, incorporating lots of fun to keep the young students interested in practice and lessons. For more experienced students, I like to start with warmups and exercises that are designed to set the student up for success in repertoire, and then finish the lesson working through repertoire specifically working through challenging areas of each piece and finding an emotional connection to each piece once ideal technique is established. I love teaching and sharing my passion of singing with my students. I, however, never want to pressure a student to go in one director or push them too far too fast. The best way to learn is at your own pace. I make vocal warm ups tailored to each students needs and I do encourage them to try these out at home. Practice is ideal for each student. I encourage my students in their practicing. Progress will be made most quickly by those students who maintain the recommended practicing time (1 hour per day). Parents are also encouraged to be involved in their students practice. Taking the time to listen to your child play their weekly songs, or creating a set time for practicing in the students daily routine are good ways to become involved. Read More
