An emphasis on my part is exposing the student to material of the highest quality. I teach total musicianship, including tonal memory, scales, sight-reading, and repertoire. Each of my students come with varying ages, genres, and levels, so I create personalized lesson plans for each of my students based on theirs needs. For younger beginners I start with simple note reading from Joe Pecararo's Read This First. This gives an opportunity to build a really solid foundation of music theory and music reading at the same time. Older beginners I take through a checklist of basic theory fundamentals of my own creation, basic chords and basic scales. Then we choose a song to learn that applies that foundation.
