Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a love for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals that are realistic and acknowledge when a student has reached a particular goal. This helps the student to become more eager to learn, more willing to spent that time each day practicing. I start by teaching methods and theories, I like to approach this in lots of different ways so that my students don't get burned out. I use flashcards, interactive games, and songs that my students are familiar with to introduce these concepts. I find that once the student knows the basics, they are quickly able to apply them to any piece of music set in front of them.This gives the student more confidence early on, which lasts because the knowledge of the basics doesn't fade. I don't offer a common style of lessons with all students, instead I design a course of study based upon each student's interests, personality, and the direction they want to go with their music, and after a few sessions of working together, I like to select repertoire that showcases them well and peaks their interests. Some techniques and concepts are commonly shared within the studio, however sessions may take a different direction of music study based on discovering a student's strengths and weaknesses and how to build upon on certain areas in their training so his/her lesson is productive. My training is in Musical Theatre, and that is my expertise, however I believe that any strong singer must start with proper technique and familiarity with his/her own unique intstrument. The voice is different than other instruments in that we carry it wherever we go, so it must be maintained with utmost care!
