My teaching experience began when I was young. My mom is a teacher, so I was inherently interested in it. I used to be the best English tutor in my 3rd grade class. I didn't start my music career until I got into high school, but I was immediately excited to share what I was learning with my friends. From there, I found work teaching guitar lessons at a local elementary school. Read More

When I was growing up beginning piano lessons books were limited. I used the familiar John Thompson series that was quite good. I typically use the Alfred method, although I still like John Thompson, and I also like the Faber method. For adults, I like to use the Alfred books that are specifically for them. My teaching style is simple and basic. I encourage them to bring water and recording devices. I remind them to keep a positive attitude before we start. We always begin with breathing exercises, scale exercises, warm ups and resonance strengthen and vocal agility. I love to see the glow on a student's face when they realize they can actually play their instrument! My teaching style is one that nurtures, encourages, and is free. I use every lesson as an opportunity to get to know my student and meet them where they are with music. Even down to allowing you to choose your own music to learn! Once again, it depends on the student! Read More

I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world. I have a variety of method books in different styles and from different time periods, and will select, assign, and provide a Method book to a student based on the student's goals. Read More
