For younger beginners I start with simple note reading from Joe Pecararo's Read This First. This gives an opportunity to build a really solid foundation of music theory and music reading at the same time. Older beginners I take through a checklist of basic theory fundamentals of my own creation, basic chords and basic scales. Then we choose a song to learn that applies that foundation. Ive been in course ever since I was five years old in my hometown elementary school I audition for honor choir in fourth grade and got in.
