Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a love for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals that are realistic and acknowledge when a student has reached a particular goal. This helps the student to become more eager to learn, more willing to spent that time each day practicing. For younger beginners I start with simple note reading from Joe Pecararo's Read This First. This gives an opportunity to build a really solid foundation of music theory and music reading at the same time. Older beginners I take through a checklist of basic theory fundamentals of my own creation, basic chords and basic scales. Then we choose a song to learn that applies that foundation. I create custom lesson plans moving forward that line up with the students stylistic desires and capability. Read More

I have a Master of Music degree from Georgia State University with an emphasis in Vocal Performance/Opera Studies. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Vocal Performance emphasis) from Tougaloo College. We first begin with an introduction song chosen by the student, this helps me understand their current ability and what the student needs to work on. From there we move on to learning music theory, Open throat technique as well as specific techniques involving the students preferred Genre.
