For beginners young adults as well as children, I like to start with the basics simple vocal exercises building up the cardio teaching them how to breathe correctly so when it is actually time to sing songs they have the essentials needed. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching students from ages 4 to 20 to sing and play instruments because if you're not having fun when you're doing music, you're not doing it right.
