For younger students who are energetic, I love to incorporate games and activities to keep them engaged while we continue to learn important aspects on the violin. I generally will start off students with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Once the fundamentals from those books have been understood, I will start the students on repertoire that is appropriate for their level. I generally will start off on Classical music, but if the student has a request I will help them work on that song unless I know that their skill level isn't at the point where they can perform that song. Teaching strategies and experience ranges differently from each instructor. For beginners, such as children, I would start with the book series 'Essential Elements'. From experience, Leonard provides the most thorough book to grasp the ability to learn violin. Scale practice and listening sessions would also be a consideration for children as repetition is best to help the younger audience learn such an intricate instrument. As for older students, say teens and adults, I would say depending on the student themselves, I am very malleable to understand what the student wants out of 'music lessons'. Read More

I was leading band and sectionals in almost every instruments since I played 20 instruments. I end up volunteering for two years while I was in college and taught beginning band for freshmens in my high school. At the same time, I was teaching private lessons part-time. I am a member of the Symphonicity Orchestra in Virginia Beach, VA and the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra in Atlanta, GA. I have studied under the direction of The Hampton Roads Chamber Players and The Bay Youth Orchestra in Norfolk, VA.
