My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

Emotion inspires creativity, creativity can take one form in music, music becomes instrumental performance or vocal performance. The phrase "I love you" can transform from a simple statement, into a song such as "Speak Softly, Love" from The Godfather. Nothing brings me more pride and happiness than seeing my students learn and grow! In order to ensure this for each student, I pay close attention to what that student responds to best. I can therefore set realistic goals, which, when met, allow my students to naturally develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments - which I encourage by acknowledging those accomplishments and showing my own excitement and pride. I have been giving voice lessons for the past 7 years starting in my undergrad years at Alabama State University. I am all about the live performance, so my ultimate goal is to make the singer comfortable with the stage and the music, finding ways to connect to the music to bring out the correct emotion to capture the audience. Breathing is my main focus because without breath there is no voice no sound. Read More

My experience with vocal coaching started when I was a young girl helping to teach my church's choir parts for songs we had to learn. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour. I had the pleasure of coaching and singing on tour twice while in college. I graduated and went into teaching my own lessons while also assistant teaching for choir at a middle school. Read More

I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world. I have a variety of method books in different styles and from different time periods, and will select, assign, and provide a Method book to a student based on the student's goals. Read More
