I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from Shorter University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance. I was very involved with the Opera Theatre at Shorter and performed many lead roles. I was also a member of the Shorter Chorale. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to sing in Austria, Italy, and South Africa while touring with my choirs.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 4 years ago. While attending Shorter University in Rome, GA, I was the Children's Choir Director at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Encouraging practice on a daily schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for my students. It helps the student progress and gain momentum and passion for singing. I also don't believe in one genre of music. I am very open-minded and willing to teach any style.
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with what they feel most comfortable and provide them with lots of encouragement. I also teach them basics to Music Theory, such as note names and how to read music. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more advanced repertoire as they gain confidence in their ability. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
I teach students to find their natural voice using whatever type of material they choose. I encourage students to work hard while being patient during extraordinary circumstances. I understand there are days where a student may not have been able to practice. While teaching does pay the bills, money is not the reason why I teach. I love music and I enjoy teaching it to others. My main goal for students is that they have achieved their expectations. No student will walk away in tears - "If it's too silly to be said, it must be sung".
