I teach students about breath support and resonation and how they work together. Then help the student customize their own warm up method. while working on scales and solfeggi (do re mi). And then work on vocal projection and range, before moving onto vocal articulation and annunciation. There are many aspects of singing that work together it is important to understand how these factors function. its can be helpful to understand what to listen and look for in your performance or what others may see that may not be obvious to you. My experience goes back to High School when I would give casual tutoring sessions to friends. In college I started teaching lessons in theory and composing/songwriting. I like to encourage students to get on a practicing schedule especially for younger students as it helps them get more interested in the instrument. I like to start with modern pop/rock styles to get the student interested in the instrument then mix in Jazz so we can talk about more complex theory and also mix in a little classical so we can talk about technique and form. While still in college, I was a music tutor at North Star in Hadley For two years. I worked one-on-one with students in middle school on both voice and guitar. During my time there, I taught kids anything from different chords on the guitar, to breath support and passion in one's singing, to vocal improvisation and stage confidence. I've been away from teaching for a couple of years, but with the a Capella group, I have to accommodate for twelve different people and their learning styles. Read More

I began teaching music while in college. Friends and family knew that I played piano, organ, and sang well, so it I began getting requests for private lessons. I have been a high school and middle school teacher and have taught as adjunct faculty on the college level. Since college, I have had private and group music students in my own studio or through an institution. I chose the career of being a church musician in the Episcopal Church, playing piano, organ, singing, conducting choirs, putting on concerts and other productions. Read More

I want you to get out of your lessons everything you hoped you would. My hope as a teacher is to provide lots of encouragement so that the student feels accomplished in the work they have completed. All of my singers work through the exercises by Mathilde Marchesi as they are the backbone of bel canto and good healthy singing. I encourage my vocalists to explore different styles and techniques to find the best fit for their instruments. I also teach theory and sight singing using various different methods and tools. I am a big believer in encouraging my singers to do research on the pieces they are performing. Read More
