As a guitar teacher, I like to start with getting the student accustomed with each string, including how to tune a guitar and how to play different notes on each string. Next, I start teaching chords by starting with E minor and then moving as little as possible with the fingers so the student can understand the relation between certain chords. For voice, I start with posture and breath support and work on vocal techniques before we even start with singing songs. Read More

My passion for teaching began in my Junior year of high school in 2011-2012, when I spent 6 months teaching guitar lessons to elementary school students at a local YMCA after-school program. With a class size of approximately 10-15 students, I learned many valuable teaching methods for students of all backgrounds and learning methods. The combination of technique, sheet music, sight reading and music tracks that the student want to learn is a great way for the students to learn at their own pace. Practicing every day or every other day and having a track when playing each week can really develop your playing. Practicing for 10-50 minutes is ideal, rather than, only practicing for 3 hours one day a week. Always having a principle short goal or long term goal on the guitar or any instrument is really important to always keep you going forward as a musician. Read More

I have learned through my teaching experience that some students need a push and some need a pull. Every student is unique. I admit that I am the most successful with a competitive method. The "I bet you can't play that right" method. Read More

If a student is just starting out, we go over the parts of the instrument, how to hold and make a sound with the instrument. We start with simple songs that only have a few notes. We learn easy song after song and learn the notes along the way. once the student has enough skill on the instrument I start to have the student pick songs they want to learn. Read More

Music is meant to be a form of expression. Sometimes you'll find a student may have a hard time expressing themselves. So as part of my teaching style I try to make them feel comfortable. Everyone is different, which make some students more challenging than others. However, there is something consistent about every student. Every student has that look of bewilderment when they completely understand something. I call it the light bulb. Read More
