I like to begin with the basics of singing technique, sight reading, and music theory. In order to be a successful singer, one must be proficient in all of these! I like to assign music by the second or third lesson, depending on the student's readiness and ability. I typically assign one classical and/or one musical theater song, depending on the student's interest. For my older students I always try and find out what they would like to focus on specifically. I usually begin with what they feel their musical strengths and weaknesses are. From there we build up their strengths and create newer strengths. I create my own personal lesson plans to cater to each individual student.
