I am a big believer in the breath. For a beginner I do a lot of exercises with breath connection to encourage healthy, connected singing. I like the idea that the voice dances on the breath and is buoyed and protected by that technique. I am also a very physical teacher, encouraging students to use their whole body in the act of singing. The voice is carried by the whole body and not just the muscles that are the vocal chords. I started teaching private lessons in high school. I taught guitar, bass, piano, voice, and songwriting lessons at Biryukov Academy of Arts and Music for 5 years for both kids and adult beginners. I have performed, written and music directed a children's theatre tour where I taught children to sing, act, and perform in front of large crowds. My teaching experience is rather diverse. I started teaching private lessons thirty years ago and I always loved sharing what I knew with others.
