I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1992, I graduated from Baruch (CUNY) with a degree in Applied Music. I have performed in Nashville and in New York City which has been one of my greater experiences as a musician, and I have had the opportunity to play at Jazz and Country Western clubs. We all have a tendency to be against nature. it is very important to find the right voice teachers for ourselves like finding the right physicians for ourselves who are able to help our problems and to learn about our body by nature. For the selections of song and operatic arias, I let the students select for themselves at first and I will advise them to try out the appropriate selections of song and arias for them to develop their ability to feel comfortable to sing with joy and accomplishments eventually. For most students, I typically start with breathing exercises and warm ups to learn the student's voice. I would ask for the student to prepare a song of their choice and we would typically spend a few lessons learning the fundamentals and engaging in proper technique. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with simple chords and teach them a few fun songs. If the student is interested in learning how to read music, I will use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance if they are interested in performing live. For adults, I like to find out what they are most interested in, whether it is a specific genre, (jazz/classical) or if they are more interested in learning songs (classic rock/pop/etc.) or songwriting.
