Hello! My name is Julia and I'm an NYC-based actor/musician. I graduated in 2015 from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Acting. I'm also a proud National Theatre Institute and Moscow Art Theater alumna. In 2017, I completed my year and a half run with the Broadway National Tour of Once the Musical as the female swing, understudying: Girl (piano), Rza (violin) and Ex-Girlfriend (violin). For beginning students, the first things to learn are how to hold the violin. Setup and posture are the most important steps to avoid developing bad habits and the possibility of getting injured. Upon learning the basics of how to hold the violin and the bow is learning how to read music and sing music. If a student knows the basic setup of the violin/piano and knows how to read music then I would start them on repertoire fitted to their level. Read More

For intermediate students, I incorporate short concertos such as Vivaldi, Bach, and Haydn. In addition, etudes and scale practice with arpeggios are the basis for technique improvement. Other teaching materials may include Carl Flesch scale system, Hřmal scales, evčk, Wohlfahrt, Kreutzer, and Vieuxtemps. My curriculum is individualized to each students ability and interest. For beginning students who are children, I typically begin by introducing them to the various parts of the instrument, along with the basics of technique and position. New notes and concepts would be introduced through learning familiar songs and pieces. All parents are encouraged to attend their child's violin lessons so that they can aid practice sessions. For adults, I try to find out what the student is most interested in learning, and devise a plan with the student accordingly in order to keep the lessons engaging and fun. Read More
