First of all, I would ask the student if music would be his/her career or just a hobby. If it is to be his/her career, my approach would be more theoretical. But if it would be just a hobby like mine, I would encourage the student to learn by ear supplemented with a little theory to be able to learn a musical piece or song in the shortest time possible. At the core, I believe everyone has a voice, and my job as a music teacher is to help someone realize his or her own voice. The violin is a hard instrument to master, and many people get discouraged when progress doesn't come faster. Thus, I exhibit patience and encouragement, always helping the students feel good about themselves. I try to find out each student's "heart-music," and use the same basic method with whatever style he or she really wants to play. Read More

I Try to get away from mechanism without joy. Everything has to be close to the music. Exercises to be actually doing them with a rhythm and time. To apply concepts musically they need to do it with musical taste. Read More

I began teaching in 2009 as a teachers assistant at an elemenatary school in my home town. Ever since then I have been in love with education. In some ways, the rewards of teaching can be even more so than that of performing. In 2010, I began to take in private violin students teaching at the Community School of Music and the Arts at the Unviersity of Redlands. Soon after I joined the CSMA String Project, where I taught alongside an experienced credentialed teacher. Read More

As stated above, I try to make students hungry for practice and to feel that the pursuit of a mastery of music is an enriching experience on a deeply personal level. I'm calm, gentle, very easy to talk to. I have great patience for students and realize how frustrating learning an instrument can be sometimes. It is also worth noting that I teach Fiddle (Blu-grass, oldtime, Texas style), Guitar (primarily rhythmn guitar), and Mandolin. Read More

Mr. Li directed the musical The Wiz at the Tugaloos college of Mississippi and directed the Tchaikovskys Nutcracker Ballet at Madison Cultural Center in Mississippi. Since he moved to California in 2002, I focused on music education; he was director of Waltrips Yamaha Music School, and later a director of the music program and a faculty member at the Arroyo Pacific Academy. In recent years, I have organized and conducted student string ensembles and school choirs to perform for different local venues, including school events, senior community centers, and Christmas concerts or other holiday occasions. I do expect hard work, but I understand how sometimes, even hard work isn't enough, and ultimately the approach to learning the instrument should be altered a bit. Music has given me so many different opportunities, and I want my students to stick with it long enough to be able to see that those opportunites could be possible for them. The beginning is the hardest part, once they're past that hurdle, they can find endless joy in their instrument. Read More
