Ive been playing guitar for almost 15 years now. From small gigs to big venues, from using in ears and click to just playing by ear, my specialty is Pop, Rock, Metal, and Punk; but that doesnt mean that I cant play a country gig or Spanish/Latin American kind of gig. Feel free to reach out no matter the genre, and I may surprise you! Before teaching in California I've been teaching privately for the past 3 years in Minnesota helping students to achieve their goals with the instruments from playing and singing at the same time to playing full solos and gaining finger independence avoiding injuries and guiding them to a fun and challenging way of playing. Suzuki Piano: also called the mother-tongue method. The method is modeled after the way the way children learn their native language, with an emphasis on exposure to the music being learned via listening to a recording. Note reading is not neglected, though earliest pieces are learned "by ear." The Suzuki philosophy is "Every Child Can" (learn to play). Read More

I teach to inspire fun and love in music and to give the student a sense of accomplishment in their progress. Once I know the student I can cater the teaching style to their individual needs. In my experience, a young student must see results, they need to know they aren't treading water, so I believe it's imperative to keep the student engaged and fully aware of how they're progressing. My approach to teaching is to meet the students where they are. I often ask them to write a list of their 'top ten favourite songs' and also encourage them to listen to music. I want to know what moves them and inspires them, so I can adapt my instruction to their needs. I encourage consistency in practising above quantity (hours spent), as a little bit every day goes a long way. Read More

I like my students to bring a small notebook, so that they may write their homework down, and any practice assignments. I expect my students to keep a practice log of how much time they practice per week, in between lessons. I always insist that setting goals and expectations for them, is very important, as well as keeping track of whether they themselves are staying on task. I try and incorporate different ways of practicing or playing music, so that even practicing turns into being fun and exciting and doesn't feel like a chore. Read More

I have performed in over 40 shoes in both opera and musical theatre, from Sweeney Todd to Spring Awakening, L'Incoronazione di Poppea and Trouble in Tahiti. I have also an extensive background as a choral performer (both secular and religious settings). I have taught students of all ages in music practice, theory, and foreign language in both group and individual settings. Read More

Admittedly limited, my teaching experience started when I was in High School when I became the marching Band's trumpet section leader. I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with otherswatching people grow in their musicianship is an incredible reward for me and I'd love to experience it more in my life! In college, I once again assumed the role of student and absorbed everything that I could. Now that I am graduate, I am very ready to share that with those who would have it. Read More
