In 1998, I began teaching saxophone lessons in Houston, TX. I have taught saxophone lessons in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2008. My students were in middle school, high school, college. and adults. In addition, I have taught students who wanted to start a new hobby or were interested in returning to an instrument that they played in the past. In 2011, I began studying with Joe Eckert at TCU. At TCU, I coached the saxophone quartets, lead rehearsals for the jazz ensemble saxophone section, performed classical saxophone recitals, and performed with the jazz ensemble. Read More

Igor performed at jazz festivals in Ljubljana, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Csfero, at major jazz clubs in New York including the Jazz Standard, Cornelia Street Cafe, Supper Club, Birdland; and venues all over the world with such jazz legends as Reggie Workman, John Abercrombie, Chico Hamilton. In 2011 I was commissioned to create a piece for a closure of European Capital of Culture. With multimedia artist Zeljka Blaksic he created Resistance of the Earth, which is a multimedia project that combines several artistic genres; from video, performance, 16 mm film to live music. I work with my students from a method book, and then move to  add scales, etudes, and repertoire as they advance. Additionally, if I start teaching an older student as a beginner, I believe it is important to teach them at their intellectual level. I never intend to talk down to my students, and I always strive to meet them where they are to raise their level of understanding. For younger students/beginners, I am a huge advocate of the Rubank Elementary Method for Saxophone, since it covers a lot of the basic materials such as note values, scales, and arpeggios. For students who have progressed past this stage, I introduce "The Art of Saxophone Playing" by Larry Teal which introduces some more advanced rhythmic and articulation concepts. For saxophone students of all levels I strongly recommend Sigurd Rascher's "Top Tones for Saxophone" because it develops a students understanding of how to develop a strong sound and knowledge of the overtone series. My technique for teaching students vary depending on the student and their competency. If the student is a beginner I like to start them with the basics of theory and rhythm by explaining the circle of 5ths, major scales, minor scales, augmented, and diminished scales. Then once the student grasps the very basic concepts of music theory I then either have them bring in a song the would like to play or I will give them variations of Ferling Etudes or Bach Etudes to establish a solid foundation in music theory.
