For all beginning students I start by having the student set a goal. Some goals past students have set are learning to improvise, learn a specific piece, prepare for a musical competition/performance, prepare for a college audition or be able to express themselves through there instrument. As long as you have a goal with your instrument I can help you achieve it. I create lesson plans based on the students level to help grasp and improve fundamentals, technique and sound. Read More

For adults, I like to teach based on a goal oriented program. For example, If I have a student who is only interested in learning the saxophone for the sake of playing "Yakety Sax" or "The Pink Panther Theme", then I will tailor the lesson plan towards learning that while still working on the fundamentals of Saxophone along the way. When an instrument is physically easy to play, it is much more enjoyable to practice! Other areas that I focus on include posture, breath support, emboucher, and reed placement. These are fundamentals of a woodwind player, and with some attention can make the playing experience that much more gratifying. I also encourage students to learnaboutthe history of the music they are studying and theirinstrument.
