I am a passionate musician and educator who is dedicated to helping students not only learn to play their instrument but to become a well-rounded musician. I love working with students of all ages and sharing my experience and love of classical, jazz and world music styles. I began teaching both privately and as a group instructor 4 years ago while studying in Undergrad. Since then, I have had the wonderful opportunity to be a teaching assistant at summer jazz workshops, and have been teaching privately in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and now New York. Instilling a love for the process of learning and practicing is my top priority as an instructor. Striking the right balance between regimented fundamental practice and pursuing the students' personal musical interests allows the student to develop a healthy sense of discipline and reward in all aspects of their life. I like to follow a format for lessons, giving a certain amount of time to warming up, practicing technical studies and scales, etudes or lessons, solo literature and ensemble (duet, trio, ensemble) literature. I would encourage students to make an agenda for practicing, I believe many student need to learn how to practice, much like study skills, so they can make good use of their time. I teach students how to mark their music, how to break apart difficult sections and how to set goals for each week. Read More

After taking an interest in music at an early age, his path eventually led him to jazz and improvization. I first ask the student to play so I can hear him/her. After a student plays a short piece of music of their own choosing I can determine what the next step is. Each student has his/her own individual needs. In general though I focus on 3 key elements: 1) Sound quality 2) Technical dexterity (how the fingers deal with the twists and turns of the instrument) 3) Reading Music If a student has a specific genre of music that he/she wants to focus on then I mainly concentrate on that.
