Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
As a Saxophonist and Clarinetist I prescribe to the Joe Allard method of embouchure and technique that has been codified and popularized by saxophone master and pedagog, Dave Liebman, from whom I have taken countless classes. For my classical students, I like to use the Rubank method books. For more advanced students, I am a huge fan of the Rose Studies for Clarinet and the Ferling studies for Saxophone. Both of these books not only provide great etudes for technique but also are great studies in musicality, theory and interpretation. Read More

My greatest joy as a teacher is seeing students fall in love with music and find great joy and fulfillment playing their instruments! I pay close attention to the student's experience and tailor lesson content and goals to match individual needs and learning styles. I aim to cultivate an atmosphere of encouragement, commitment, inspiration and motivation that keeps students wanting to spend quality time with their instrument and learn to play the music that they most enjoy. I'm all about bringing positive vibes into what I teach! I love music and I bring that love into everything I teach. My goal is to always make sure the student feels comfortable, feels heard, and feels prepared for anything I may throw at them. Music is a living experience and I believe as a teacher you need to bring that energy every time you teach. I make sure every student feels accomplished from everything I ask of them, I'm considerate in my instruction, and I make sure every assignment I give is feasible for the student's level. Read More

My passion for teaching goes way back to my middle School years when my band professor would let me teach the younger grades. Throughout the years my love for teaching has increased, watching my students grow in every lesson, watching them achieve their goals is what inspire me to keep the hard work. It very important for me to encourage daily practice and it's very important that parents do too. Read More

Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. I have taught private lessons for 9 years, and I can proudly say that the majority of my students were accepted either to middle and high school honor ensembles, or to their colleges of choice. Before I teach any student, I make it my goal to gather as much information as I can about why they wish to study clarinet, their goals, and their long-term dreams. My job is to help those dreams happen, so I keep a database of this information to consistently reference during my time with my students. Read More

My teaching experience started when I was still in college a few years ago. I start with new students by encouraging them to practice and study music consistently, as this is the best way to internalize and truly learn the art. However, I also help students individually by focusing on the goals they are trying to accomplish in their playing. At the same time, I like for students to have fun because it is the failure of the teacher if the student is not having a good time or willing to go through the trials of becoming better at their craft.
