I am passionate about playing and studying music, and I would like my students to develop a love for music. I encourage my students to work hard and to improve each week, and I emphasize the importance of the process of learning. This helps my students focus, and it facilitates the achievement of their musical goals. My lessons are also fun and engaging. I try to include fun music, musical games, and teacher-student duets to keep the student interested. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder
When I first meet with a student, I usually try to get a sense of their ability level, goals, and the styles of music they enjoy. Since everyone is unique, I tailor my lesson plans to each individual. I can help with planning a practice routine, and with selecting music that is interesting, fun, and hopefully a bit challenging (because thats how we improve)! I will recommend method books, and music books, and write a clear practice schedule at every lesson, and will look for ways to keep my students motivated. Read More

My relationship with music making began at the age of 7 when I begrudgingly agreed to take piano lessons at the nudging of my parents. In the first lesson, my teacher taught me the theme from The Simpsons, and I was sold. It would be years before I would actually become competent at turning notes on a page into something musically expressive, but that day I went home knowing I had found something special, and that inertia has carried me to where I am today. I like to make music learning a self-engaged process. Students will keep track of their assignments, make some of the decisions about what music to play, and be expected to practice a minimum of 5 or 6 days per week. Students are sometimes reluctant to have discipline at first, but once they realize that they are making fast progress and overcoming musical challenges, they tend to have a great time. I have had parents of middle schoolers tell me that the structure music lessons have brought to their students' lives has made a huge difference in other areas. Read More

29 years playing the saxophone. 16 years teaching in Ridgfield Park, NJ K-6 general music, band, and chorus. Instruments taught are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion, as well as piano. Constructed and teach a music and movement program for autistic and special service students. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
