Hi, I am a music instructor who strives to meet the musical needs and desires of every student of mine, through sharing my passion and love of music. I like to learn what my students' musical taste is, while at the same time making sure that they learn the necessary musical theory, history, and technique existent in the music we work on. I graduated from Long Island University-CW Post with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and I graduated from SUNY StonyBrook with a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, focusing solely on music. My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher. I taught music theory, ear training, and vocal music. Right after I graduated college I was accepted into the music education program at Teachers College Columbia University where I received my masters degree in music education along with certification in New York state to teach Pre-K through 12. I have been teaching using the Suzuki method for more than 20 years. I love working with young kids because I understand the value of introducing them to music at a young age. They will become fluent in a musical language that they will carry with them throughout their lives. For more advanced students, I enjoy the challenge of training them to produce a professional quality sound when they play advanced repertoire. Read More

Since I started learning the violin at the age of seven, I have had a range of experiences that have cultivated my sense of leadership and empathy. I have been a part of a variety of different youth orchestras growing up and this constant exposure to working with my peers have allowed me to develop strong skills in teamwork and communication. In high school I was awarded a legislative resolution for my accomplishments for music in the community. Read More

For beginners, I typically start with Suzuki and/or Strictly Strings, though for bass players I tend to move towards Vance/SS instead. Once the fundamentals are understood, then we begin to start more technical exercises and start to prepare solo repertoire. For students who are more experienced or older, I try to see what specifically they are interested in and incorporate that into our work. I emphasize how important proper posture and playing position is, as more advanced techniques would be hard to do without proper posture and could even cause pain later on. Read More

Assuming that the student is starting from scratch, I start by directing them how to hold the bow and explaining all the different parts of the bow and their purpose. I then move over to the violin and do the same. I first start with showing them a good bow hold as I feel like a proper bow hold is a very important key to making a great sound. I will also take the time to explain the role of the fingers and show how it is the foundation to all the bow technique they are going to learn. Read More

For beginners who are children, I start with the essential Suzuki method which includes a focus on musical listening imitation, parental involvement (at very young ages) and creating an effortless technique. The Suzuki books are great in that they provide a great foundation and an extremely logical progression for taking students from complete beginners to an advanced level. For advanced students, we can branch out into a wide variety of classical concertos or other repertoire (this happens around Suzuki book 6) I love to teach adults, and I try to structure my teaching in accordance with adult students' goals and interests.
