I taught AP music theory while I was IN high school, graduated as the top pianist of one of the top 10 jazz bands in the USA. In college at SMU, I studied finance, but quickly got a double in music, studying classical music under Alfred Mouledous (world renowned pianist) and focusing my free time on jazz. Above all else, music is supposed to be fun. I want my students to be excited about learning new things each week. Music is also a collaborative practice, so I think it is important for the student and the teacher to play together in a supportive environment to help reaffirm the week's lesson. I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less.
