One of the things I am most passionate about is helping students find and develop the musical spark inside of them. It is one of the most rewarding things for me to see the progress a student makes over time, and I am sure you will learn to look at music from a new and fun perspective under my guidance. I take an approach that focuses heavily on training the ear and improvisation, as I am a firm believer in the importance of those skills. Read More

I'm a freelance musician, transcriptionist and composer located in Nashville. Music is constantly present in my life. I love exploring new music and exploring new avenues to be creative in music. I graduated from Belmont University in 2014. Previous to living in Nashville, I lived in Wisconsin for 18 years. While I was there I played in a symphonic metal band called Warseid. Once I moved to Nashville, I started studying jazz, classical guitar, playing country, exploring avant-garde music as well as bluegrass. Read More

For all students I start with the basic fundamentals. For younger students I try to find out where they are in their music classes at school and incorporate as much of that curriculum into my instruction as possible. For older or more advanced students I find out what type of music they are interested in learning and gear my instruction towards their interests. I have several instructional books series that I work from, including Hal Leonard, Mel Bay and my own packet/study guides that I have put together that I present to my students as they progress. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My theory teacher Mr Lormand, had a master from Julliard and was a stickler for the vernacular and so am I, my grandmother was a school teacher and I get a lot from her as well.I get my students to buy a Harvard Dictionary of music for reference. My teaching philosophy is that students blossom at their own pace. Some concepts might be more difficult for some to grasp than others. Students may excel in some areas and struggle in others. I teach sustainable and kind methods of practice and learning. I believe that a teachers true job is to teach a student how to practice. I encourage short and long term goal-setting. I believe that what keeps any musician coming back to the woodshed is enthusiasm. Read More
